RIM India slashing Entry Prices of Blackberry Range to win back the Lost User Base

Status symbol Blackberry handsets are ready to again knock the market with a bang in India. Blackberry having its entry point above Rs. 20000 will now enter the market with its new device at less than Rs 15000 this year, told Mr. Sunil Dutt, MD, RIM India in its first media interaction after taking the charge of Research in Motion in December.
For its Curve model 9360 and 9380 RIM’s current price point for its latest Blackberry devices in India is Rs. 20000. The company accepts that it has lost its young users as they switched to other smart and cheaper Android devices such as Samsung, Sony Ericson, LG, Motorola and Micromax in the market. To cope with the problem company will work out some new deals with other telecom operators, said Dutt.
Blackberry lost many of its young users after its services were disrupted for three days last year. Since then the company has been working overtime to woo back the user base. The company said that it has reached an understanding with the government on the issue after spending lot of time with them and solving all doubts and queries. Dutt added that this is not the only problem of RIM instead it’s the problem of entire industry.
When it comes to the type of customers 30% of BlackBerry users are general consumers while remaining 70% are enterprise customers.
RIM’s marketshare in the smart phones category in India is estimated at 12.7%, behind market leader Samsung at 39.7% and Nokia at 34.7%, according to Cybermedia Research.
